GARDEN DELIGHT

Color

Contrast

Light

Shape

These pictures have it all.  If you look closely at flowers,
you can see wonderful details in hue, shape,
and contrast.
And when you get the sun behind them,
they become irridescent and bright.

I love how this simple white flower pops against the dark green backdrop.
And you can see a little bug on one petal to the upper right.  It is integrated into the perfection, a natural "flaw."
Enjoy the photographs, and I hope it inspires you all to take a stroll, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the delicate beauty of the nature God has provided for our enjoyment.
This last one is one of my favorites.  It reminded me of the fireworks I witnessed on July 4th!  It is an explosion of color, contrast, texture, shape and beauty.

JACKALOPES

I wrote a poem about my experience with the infamous Jackalopes.  My friend, Linda A., remembered that poem, and on her recent travels she was nice enough to bring me back a little gift.
It is an adorable little jackalope figurine which stands about 3 inches tall.
Isn't he cute?!
Thank you so much Linda!
I will treasure him!

Below is my poem.

JACKALOPES

Travelling from Southern California to Missouri and back
in a station wagon with four young, rambunctious children,
two boys and two girls, my parents were creative
in finding ways to occupy our time and avoid battles.

“Watch for jackalopes,” my father commanded as he drove.
We’d seen a stuffed jackalope in a tumbledown gas station;
a large gray-brown jack rabbit adorned with antelope
antlers, were bewildered by this unique animal.

We were to count how many we spied frolicking
out in that dry wilderness among the tumbleweeds
and scrub brush. Four vigilant children, eyes scrutinizing
the landscape for movement of these quick creatures.
So plentiful were these remarkable animals!
We spied hundreds as we travelled along,
so engaged with this assignment, excitedly pointing
them out to each other, sharing in our success.

But each ensuing summer the jackalopes diminished
in number, their sightings less frequent. I was the first
to discover that my interest and their appearances
simultaneously waned until I lost the vision altogether.

Gliding out of childhood, as we slowly drifted away
from the magic and wonder youth held,
the jackalopes became extinct, a remembrance
of those travels, those shared experiences when we laughed

and took pleasure in observing the cavorting
of fantasy creatures, an experience
which bonded four siblings travelling
from Southern California to Missouri and back.

FAMILY FINDS A HOME

Here is my cute little great-niece, Viviana. She is definitely a redhead! Her mother is my niece and the family has moved into their first home!

I am sure she will have fun exploring it with her baby brother, Logan.

Viviana likes to be incognito sometimes!

Here is Logan.  My mom is holding him, his great-grandma.  Logan was born Oct. 30th 2009 and is growing so fast!  I think he may end up over 6 ft. tall like his grandpa, his great-grandpa, and his great uncle!  And, as you can see, he is a redhead as well.  He is not quite 9 months old and stands pretty tall!

From left to right, you can see my mother holding Logan, Vanessa (the mother of Logan & Viviana), and my brother, Jim (Vanessa's dad & her kids grandpa!).  They are resting from working on cleaning the house Vanessa and family have bought.

This is the house in Southern Californai that Vanessa, Luis, Viviana and Logan will be living in!
Mom says it is 3000 square feet.  Way too much house to have to clean!  They are first-time homebuyers!
Congratualtions!!
