WHAT?!?!

Friday, July 31st, I started having pain in the left side of my back and front chest area just below breast.  At first I thought that I had probably pulled a muscle, so stopped chores and relaxed with a heating pad.  The pain seemed to ebb and flow for a while, but around 4 pm it started to be bad and stopped me from any more chores.  Last night I had to get up and bring the heating pad to be, though it did not really help much, and took a pain pill at 3 a.m.
I went to the urgent care this morning because the pain persisted.  The doctor examined me and then did lab tests on a urine sample (why are those containers so small?).  Seems it showed a high white blood cell count because of infection and that I am passing a kidney stone!  A kidney stone!  A week ago I turned 63 and now have a kidney stone (hope only one!).  I hope it passes through fast and I never go through this again.  The doctor told me to strain my urine through a coffee filter so I will see the kidney stone and save it.  Easier said then done!  I think it will be easier to pee into a container and then strain it.  Still working on that after the first 2 tries were not too successful.  If I do not feel better by mid-week I may be sent for an ultrasound.
I have been given pain medication and an antibiotic.  Wish me luck!

  1. Rose, I am so sorry to hear this! I had kidney stones once and know how painful they can be. I was 5 months pregnant with our third child and I thought I was delivering her early. Thank goodness I've never had them again! Hope you pass it quickly!!
    hugs,

  3. Ouch, have had several kidney stones, and they are not fun. You need to catch the little begger so they can analyze it. Probably oxalate, most are. Watch diet - tea, spinach, chocolate, nuts - and drink plenty of water.

  4. So sorry to hear this, Rose. It doesn't seem fair that you should suffer this after all you've been through, but thank goodness it wasn't a heart attack! Sending you prayers and good wishes for a quick resolution to a painful issue! Alice.
