INSPIRATION FROM A WORKSHOP

I was lucky to take a few workshops with the Oregon Poet Laureate Emeritus Paulann Petersen.  She is amazing and gets the creative juices flowing.  We were told to write a different way to describe things, being unique.  I chose Whirlpool and Mist. We were to keep them short.
How did I do?

TO THE WHIRLPOOL
Liquid hurricane tickling across stones,
the laughing, spinning, dizzy
Rollercoaster for leaves and twigs,
a merry-go-round for daring frogs.

TO MIST
A shroud upon hillsides and mountains,
a painter creating ghostly silhouettes of grand firs
in mottled shades of grays,
composing depth, softening landscape.

MIST IS…
a million dandelions flooding the sky,
a softened surfing cloud,
a smoky blanket obscuring fields,
dispersed where roads cut through.

  1. They're all great. I think my favorite is The Mist. I remember being told to write a nursery rhyme, using creative words, in my creative writing class. I chose Little Miss Muffet. Forget the poem I wrote, but do remember using the word alacrity. My favorite class. Lynnette

  5. Rose...I comment but never goes through...but I love that you are always "stetching" and your imagery is beautiful. I hope you write two or three poems or thoughts for the church Christmas devotions...short about 15. :)

  10. My favourite one is the last one whose first verse seems so spot on to describe mist.
