I have discovered a place which sells the most delicious Italian Ice!
It is j Gelati Italian Ice & Frozen Custard Shop and the address is 3650 Concord Road in Milwaukie, OR . They are in the shopping center where Big Lots is, located at the far end facing Concord and the Goodwill across the way. Their website is: http://www.jgelati.com/
They are open from 1 pm to 9 pm 7 days a week. A perfect place to visit on a hot summers day or evening.
The Italian Ice I had was banana and watermelon (yes, they let you mix flavors!) and I was humming with every bite The Italian ice is made with real fruit, and contains no fat, no
cholestrol and no dairy, and best of all, it is low in calories and very
refreshing. I can attest to this!
They also sell frozen custard, which is a type of ice cream made
with cream, sugar and eggs. It typically contains 10% milk fat and 1.4%
egg yolk. It is an American ice cream introduced in 1919.
To top it off, their menu also includes Gelati, a parfait-like delight which is a layering of Italian Ice and frozen
custard. Italians in Philadelphia and New York named the frozen treat
Gelati and is not to be confused with Gelato, which is Italian ice
cream. There are some very fine Gelato shops in Portland but j Gelati
is the only Italian ice and frozen custard shop!
They have 20 or more flavors of Italian Ice.
The frozen custard ice cream comes in 45 flavors. If you want a dish called a Turtle, they have it. It is Vanilla custard ice cream, hot fudge, caramel and pecans. Anyone salivating yet?
Then there is the Hurricane: soft custard ice cream mixed with a choice of add-ins: Butterfinger, M&Ms, Oreo cookies, or Peanut butter cups.
Or try the Gelati Whip: A shake blening Italian Ice and custard.
There's also an Italian smoothie which is a blend of Italian ice and 7up.
Then there are shakes, hot fudge sundaes and coffee! Try them out. You will not be sorry!
And you will be humming like I did.
Well, now you've done it, Rose. I must visit that shop and partake of it's wonders!
ReplyDeleteSince I'm lactose intolerant, that dairy free Italian Ice sounds divine! Sort of like a snow cone for grownups, Yum!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe you did this post Rose, we found two of the most A-mazing and delicious ice-creameries when in the tropical far north recently. Quality ice-cream is my total downfall!! Yum.
ReplyDeleteOh...I've driven by and done just that...kept on driving. Thanks for the cones up hint. I'll stop next time.
